The second step of The Way is to live in the present moment. This step reminds you that when you worry, you direct energy to the past or future, two areas that you have no control over. Forgive and let go. You have a savings account of energy and when you waste energy on negative thoughts and behaviors you deplete that account. In modern society, it is difficult to stay in the present moment. Our cell phones buzz. The media directs our attention away from the present moment with shock and awe stories. People demand our attention. Emails flood our inbox. What’s a girl to do? (or guy?) I have found yoga and meditation helps me stay in the present moment. They say when the gaze is still, the mind is still. Daily, I follow my practice, which helps me stay grounded in the present. The Buddha once said, “The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.” Today, strive to be here now, however you can get there.
