Remember when you were a child and played dress up? Maybe you were like me and were in a garage band. Nope. I didn’t play drums–just the guitar and I sang. Or perhaps you built forts out of your mother’s old blankets and convinced her to bring you cookies and milk because you couldn’t leave in case the Indians attacked? The fourth step of The Way reminds you that you are a creative being and to devote a portion of your day to creative pursuits. In other words: PLAY! Carl Jung once said, “Without this playing with fantasy no creative work has ever come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of the imagination is incalculable.” Oh, I can hear some of you now. “I don’t have time to play. I’m important. I have too much work to do.” Hogwash! Aren’t we all children at heart? Aren’t we all the Divine’s children? If I allowed you playtime, what would you do? Think about it. What would be fun? Today, invite your inner child out on a play date. Allow for the death of ideas about who you should be and what you should do. Just go have some fun! Some days are just meant for playing.
