Over the last several days, both of our businesses have had employees no call, no show. One worked for one day. I guess he made on unemployment, so he went back. The other had been with us for six months, but didn’t like his manager (not me) riding him, making him perform. He has a small child and is fairly unskilled, but decided to “take this job and shove it.” We live in an area where the unemployment is touching twelve per cent. One would think you would keep your job until you found another one. The fifth step of The Way is to participate in meaningful work that adds value to your life and the lives of others. But work is work. We’re not going to play. We’re going to work and at our businesses we serve the customer because without the customer there is no business. Working is a skill. One needs to learn to work. That you need to show up on time, ready to work, and you will be rewarded by a paycheck. I hear many people tell me that it must be easy to find employees in this job market, but sadly it isn’t. Society has trained them well. Too many government programs handing out money. Thanks for letting me vent. Now, I’m off to place new ads.
