In this crazy world we all inhabit, it is necessary for one to create their own sacred space. Joseph Campbell said, “Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again.” Virginia Wolf called it a “room of one’s own.” Whatever you want to call it, this sacred space is where you can just be. There were times in my life that the house was crowded, space was limited, but I’ve always had my own space. Currently, the children are grown and I have more room to spread out. (Although when the grandchildren come over they love to play in my sacred space!) Today, of you don’t have a sacred space, choose a room, or a corner that you can call your own. Decorate it with items that speak to your soul, some books, statues, candles, plants, a meditation cushion, your yoga mat, etc. Make it a habit to visit this space in the morning before you start your day and at the end when you need to call in all your energies from the day. Make this the place where you are kind to yourself, true to yourself, and where you honor the Divine within.
