Martha Graham once said, “Your body is a sacred garment.” Your body is the vehicle your soul uses to traverse this lifetime, to learn the lessons your soul has decided, and to complete its mission. That’s why taking care of your physical, mental, and spiritual health is so important. It’s also the first step of The Way, which is to live your life to the fullest by being in good health. But sometimes it’s tough. I agree. We are tempted by food and drink. We stay up late watching some mindless movie on cable. We are tempted by the couch, instead of hitting the pavement, and we expose our minds and souls to violence and materialism in the media. We all know that when we glow with good health life is sweeter. We greet the day with energy and enthusiasm and our lives become less stressful. So, if you have a health habit you know you need to change, start today, slowly. Perhaps you need to stop smoking. Why not start by cutting the amount of cigarettes down per day to slowly detox your body before you stop suddenly? That technique works well with cutting out sugar and fat. Our cells become addicted to the toxins we put in our body, and I have found it more effective to slowly cut out the items that are harmful. Perhaps you need to start exercising. Start slowly with a simple stretching routine and a walk. Whatever you need to do, make today the day you start.
