When you look around at the world, you see it covered in a dark blanket of materialism. Unfortunately, mankind has forgotten its sacred role as guardian of the planet. Just take a drive on Saturday mornings. Garage sale after garage sale. Oh, I know one man’s junk is another man’s treasure, but if you examine the sales closely you will see that most of it is junk. Drive around your city. How many storage units do you see? People have so much stuff they can’t even store it in their garage. They have to pay to have it kept. The sixth step of The Way includes letting things go that no longer serve you. Instead of holding that garage sale, donate your items to a charity that resonates with your soul. But I’m going to move your cheese a little further. Why not make the decision to purchase responsibly? When you purchase an item, ask yourself if you really need it. Will it bring you joy and happiness, or will it add to the mountain of stuff you already have? Start small. Bring your own bags to the store. Eliminate plastic bags and water bottles from your vocabulary. Recycle. When you purchase an item, evaluate if you will receive years of usage out of the item. Choose to be a good steward of the planet. Society’s worship of the false gods of materialism has become a globally destructive phenomenon. Remember your sacred role as a guardian of the planet and plant a flower instead of junk.
